On a wintery Christmas night, I strolled in the friendless parkland with a malcontent plight, Walking without a purpose with melancholic emotions blurring my sight, I fortuitously gazed at my surrounding covered with lamps illuminating faint blue light, The sand on the ground sparkled like the blue luminescent plankton bloom, I raised my head to […]
The Christmas moon
They say the third time is the charm
But to be honest, I think that sounds really dumb
Girl number one
Was never a summer fling
She walked in
Like a toxin
That thick skin
Couldn’t keep out
She was like water in a drought
A breath of cold air in the south
Food for a watering mouth
She became everything you craved and more
Even after she walked out that door
And left
She took a hammer to the heart she kept
Pieces like leaves falling until the tree was bereft
And when the cold set in
You were searching
For a warmth like hers
Girl number two
Was she who
Wanted to
Fix you
And do
It for herself
She’d been hurt too but wanted no help
She just wanted love
The lie she shoved
Down your throat
Until you choked
While she broke
Your heart again
Set it aflame
Burning like hot stones in another summer heat
Or ash and charred meat
No matter how many excuses you’re forced to eat
You can’t stomach the pain and betrayal
Another fail
And the cold sets in again
You begin to wonder when
It will all be over
Girl number three
Shows up when the tree
Is bare
Not fair
Forcing a dying heart to sing
When there’s no use facing another short lived spring
They say the third time is the charm
The same can be said for attempted suicide and fatal physical harm
We’re just going through the seasons

Guys don’t have enough airplay of their feelings. I find that unfair because society has created a norm in which, when men are depressed or sad or angry, they’re supposed to bury that deep and show no weakness: “be a man.” But when a woman cries, the whole world falls to their knees.
I’m just pointing out something I don’t like; no one gives a second glance to the state of a guy’s mental health until it’s too late.
I wrote this poem about growing up as a guy in today’s society. It’s called Sweet Sorrow.

He’s done it again
Walked home, shirt adorned in bloodstains
Hope the other guy looks the same
Bleeding lip and a bruised eye
Why does he act so wild?
“But he seems fine…”
Most of the time
He’s at it again
He’s laughing even though you can tell he’s in
pain
Sometimes it borders on the insane
Like the Clown Prince of Crime
“But he seems fine…”
Most of the time
He’s at it again
He’s drinking and it isn’t even the weekend
It’s become like his trend:
Trying to drown the demons running rampant
in his mind
“But he looks fine…”
Most of the time
He did it again
Walked out of the house and into the rain
Ten bucks says he left to cry and pray
Why is fate so cruel to a man so kind?
“But he seems fine…”
Most of the time
He’s at it again
He’s smoking on a binge to escape his sins
Heavy on the exhale, quick before the asthma
kicks in
Inhaler in his pocket so it’s not hard to find
“But he’s doing fine…”
Most of the time
He’s at it again
He’s got a killer grip on that pen
Makes you wonder if he’s got any real friends
Like, is he lonely or just resigned?
“But he acts fine…”
Most of the time
He’s at it again
He’s popping those pills, do they even work in the
end
Another battle with depression
Even though it doesn’t show in his smile
“But he says he’s fine…”
Not this time
He tried it again
Slashed across his wrists, severed his veins
Watching as the blood dripped down, looking
like chains
This time it ran dry
“But he was doing fine…”
He lied
He never was.

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.
You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.
Why do this?
The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.
To help you get started, here are a few questions:
You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.
Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.
When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
